Character Name: Rukia Kuchiki
Character Series: Bleach
Age: Unknown (probably 100-150 years), but appears to be in her teens.

Background: Like most of the cast of Bleach, Rukia has already died, and is a resident of Soul Society (which resembles traditional Japan, perhaps even vaguely the Waring States Period, but much more structured) with other Plusses. From the time when she was a baby, she lived in the most low-class section of the Rukongai, and grew up with Renji and other young orphans as her comrades. Both Renji and Rukia seemed to show some spirit energy ability, and eventually decided that they would become shinigami in order to escape the grimy and dangerous life in Rukongai. Once in the academy to become shinigami, Rukia was discovered by the Kuchiki clan and Kuchiki Byakuya, and was adopted into the clan, allowed to skip graduation, and was inducted into the 13th division under Captain Ukitake.

Some of the other 13th division members were jealous because of her treatment, but one officer, Lieutenant Shiba Kaien, treated her the same as he treated everyone else and was friendly to her, earning her trust in him. She respected and looked up to him, and also his beautiful and kind wife, Miyako. Unfortunately, one day, disaster struck, and a hollow consumed both Miyako and Kaien, but not before using their bodies to attack the shinigami in their squad. Rukia stood frozen as the hollow-possessed Kaien flew at her to attack, but at the last second her blade pierced through him, killing both Kaien and the hollow. With his dying breath Kaien thanked Rukia, but from that day forth she never forgave herself for his death.

Thanks to Byakuya's pulling strings behind the scenes, Rukia was never given any missions that were too dangerous for her, but by accident, it seems, in the real world she one day ran into Ichigo Kurosaki, a human with unexpectedly abundant spirit energy. In a battle against a hollow outside his house, Rukia became too injured to win, and transfered her shinigami powers to Ichigo so that he could protect his family. From then on they worked together to defeat hollows in Ichigo's town, but Rukia's crime of giving her powers to a human would not go unpunished. She was eventually taken to Soul Society and imprisoned; her sentence of death, however, was extremely unexpected to everyone. Unknown to most of the lieutenants and captains, Rukia's execution was part of 5th Division Captain Aizen's plot to retrieve the Orb of Distortion that had been sealed within Rukia's body. Rukia is unaware of all this for most of the time, however, and simply sat solumnly in her cell and accepted the execution as an atonement for the sin she committed when her sword killed Lieutenant Kaien. She also did not blame her adopted brother, Byakuya, for not appearing to regret at all her sentence.

Of course, our shounen hero Ichigo found his way to Soul Society and saved the day, and Rukia's life was spared. After the various battles were finished, the conspiracy of Aizen was revealed, and the dust had settled, a battle-injured Byakuya revealed to Rukia that he had been thinking of her the whole time, and had been deeply conflicted over her execution. He had brought Rukia in to the shinigami's Gotei 13 to fulfill his promise to his late wife, Hisana, who was actually Rukia's older sister. When the sisters were in Rukongai, it seems, Hisana couldn't find a way to support both her and her baby sister in the low-class society, and had abandoned her. Byakuya carried on Hisana's dying wish to help Rukia, even though he had side-stepped the law to do it. Rukia then forgave him tearfully, and the two seemed to share the first moment of familiar closeness they'd ever had together.

After this, Rukia went to Kaien's family and apologized to his older sister Kuukaku, who's reaction was a mixture of annoyance and acceptance. After that, Ichigo & Co. returned to the real world, leaving Rukia in Soul Society.

Since I'm still in the middle of watching the Hueco Mundo arc, and I'm pretending that the filler arc never ever happened(:P), I'm going to roleplay Rukia from that point in the story. :)

As for abilities, Rukia is skilled at kido spells that use spirit energy to either attack or restrain opponents, or to heal allies. Her zanpakuto (spirit sword) is called "Sode no shirayuki", and uses ice-type attacks. She is also very fast. Her skills, however, are limited if she is inside a gigai, or temporary body, while in the real world. For the purposes of this roleplay, I'll say that she's in a good, sturdy gigai (and she just doesn't realize it at first), and her body is thus completely visible, touchable, and acts like the same as a normal human body. This means that she's wearing normal-people clothes; if she ever gets enough memory to know how to get out of her gigai, well that's another story. :D

Personality: Rukia is something of a strange girl, from her formal-yet-guy-ish way of speaking, to the vague sense of nobility about her, to her complete uselessness when it comes to poking a straw in a juice box. According to the manga author, at Ichigo's school she received terrible grades in all her subjects except for Japanese, but part of that probably has to do with the fact that she didn't grow up in 20th century Japan. She does her best to use what's around her to blend in, be it reading teenager's manga to learn the right accent, or her flamboyant acting when fooling Ichigo's family and friends into thinking she's just a normal teenager.

She likes to stand up for the weak and those in trouble, and will slap her friends around if they're not making sense to her and being too angsty. However, as frustrated as she can get with other's angsty modes, she herself is very vulnerable to the guilt she feels for putting any of her friends in danger, and especially Kaien's death. She dutifully respects Byakuya, and solemnly accepts that he must act as he must, even when he doesn't lift a finger against her death sentence. Even when Ichigo finally comes to rescue her as she's seconds away from being burnt to a crisp, she yells at him, "IDIOT! Why did you come here!!", and orders him to stay out of it and go home. Lucky for us, he doesn't. :)

She and Ichigo especially seem to share a mutual understanding, and can talk completely honestly with each other, especially after the events in Soul Society. Just as with anyone else who's earned her respect, she's willing to let Ichigo go forward to do what he has to do if he's determined.

As for favorite things, she loves rabbits, high places, and also cucumbers, strawberries, and eggs.
